Leigh Bowery

Kehrer Verlag, 2009

136 pages. PB

Leigh Bowery is remembered as one of the most colorful border crossers of the London club, fashion and art scene of the 1980s and 1990s. His sexuality was a means of aesthethic expression and he consciously used his own body in excessive abundance as his medium. His costumes, masquerades and travesties investigate the concepts of fashion and the boundaries of the body. Bowery inspired many trends in the art scene, and was the subject of a Lucien Freud nude. He died in 1994 from an HIV related infection.
