ABLONDI x Ragazzi di Strada: Paper Dress
Fashion label ABLONDI in collaboration with Italian youth culture archive Ragazzi di Strada present the The Magazine Dress.
The dress revisits the legacy of 1960s paper and poster dresses combining an iconographic study on Italian digest magazines from the era with a thorough research on technical fabrics. Produced in Tyvek, the dress retains the lightness and immediacy of paper while transforming the disposable garment into a durable, collectible object.
The dress brings together Ragazzi di Strada's archival research into Italian youth culture with ABLONDI's exploration of a contemporary feminist wardrobe. Its imagery is drawn from Italian digest, gossip and softcore publications of the 1960s and 1970s, using the representation of female bodies and pop icons in mass media as a point of departure.
Launching at Claire de Rouen during Frieze Week, the collaboration places the dress within the context of books, print and image culture, presenting it as both a garment and a cultural artefact: an object through which images, identities and collective memory can be preserved and reimagined.
The launch of the dress will be accompanied by a selection of rare and cult magazines and books drawn from the Ragazzi di Strada collection.
