Exhibition and signing: ‘And Love Comes In At the Eye’ by Tom Wood
On Friday, June 26, Irish photographer Tom Wood will be at Claire de Rouen at 11a Kingsland Road to present his new book ‘And Love Comes In At the Eye’ (Photieman, 2026), along with a signing of some very rare copies of the 1989 first edition of ’Looking for Love’ and an exhibition in the downstairs gallery.
Marking a significant moment in Wood’s career, ‘And Love Comes in at the Eye’ returns to the Chelsea Reach nightclub in New Brighton, Merseyside; the same setting that formed the basis of his first book, ‘Looking for Love’. This new volume, with photographs taken between 1979 and 1986, presents an entirely unseen body of work, with many images also made in the nightclub’s twin venue, ‘The Grand’, after 1am.
‘And Love Comes in at the Eye’ presents a myriad of approaches to the subject matter, combining multiple formats, surfaces, methods, and materials. Many scans were produced from contact sheets and work-prints, in black & white and colour, to create a unique assemblage orchestrated and designed by Wood’s long-term collaborator, artist Pádraig Timoney.
