A debut monograph by Norwegian-Vietnamese artist Kim Jakobsen Tô, Cedar Dreams brings together ethereal portraits made between 2021 and 2024 during the years he lived in Mexico City. Shot on a Hasselblad 500 C/M — an analogue camera that demands stillness and mutual trust — the images move between friends, lovers, and elders from the city's queer creative community and members of Indigenous spiritual communities including the Wixárika and Rarámuri peoples. The title holds two registers: cedar, the sacred tree burned in ceremony to enable inner vision, and dreams, standing for hope, longing, and the channelling of ancient wisdom. Refusing to separate his queer and spiritual worlds into tidy categories, Jakobsen Tô made the book as an act of reclamation — and an archive for the future. Published by Queer Street Press (2026).
