An oral history told through the voices of 16 of the 17 curators who have led the Biennale since 1993. The one absence is Germano Celant, who died in 2020 before Gioni could interview him. Gioni, who curated the 2013 edition himself, talks to figures from Szeemann and Enwezor to Alemani and Pedrosa. The book also includes an interview with Gioni by Robert Storr, and a conversation with the team who realised Koyo Kouoh's vision for 2026 after her death in 2025. A candid account of budgets, diplomacy and deadlines, and of how contemporary art has globalised over three decades.
