LaChapelle Land (Simon & Schuster / Callaway Editions, 1996) is the out-of-print debut monograph of photographer David LaChapelle, with box and cover design by Japanese artist Tadanori Yokoo. This oversized photography and pop art collection gathers LaChapelle’s saturated, candy-coloured fashion and celebrity portraits of the 1990s. The images are surreal, theatrical and often provocative, and they playfully send up fame, glamour and consumer culture. Widely regarded as a landmark photobook, it is a must for collectors of contemporary photography.
