Close-up black-and-white studies of scars on the human body. Each image is captioned with the scar's date and a single word for its cause: accident, illness, transplant, war or burn. In her afterword Ishiuchi describes scars as private marks people usually keep hidden, which is what makes photographing them so intimate.
