19/11/04–02/01/05 is a catalogue published by the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, documenting Steven Shearer’s exhibition held from 19 November 2004 to 2 January 2005. It presents an early consolidation of Shearer’s practice, bringing together paintings, drawings, collages, and archival image-based works that draw heavily on his expanding personal database of found imagery.

At the centre of Shearer’s practice at this time is a growing archive of photographs sourced from magazines, eBay, and the internet—images of 1970s and 1980s youth culture, amateur rock memorabilia, and figures associated with subcultural performance and teenage identity. These materials are reworked into paintings and collages that oscillate between portraiture, appropriation, and diagrammatic repetition.
