A new play by William Leavitt, one of the pioneers of Los Angeles Conceptual art. Sadie, Greg, Ron, Rosa, Gary and their neighbours live in a multi-storey building in LA's Mid-Wilshire district, under the control of a "disturbed algorithm". They gather for rooftop parties they call the Joy Lab, where talk drifts between 1950s suburban life and the myth of a peaceful existence in the jungle. Unknown to them, the algorithm is using these evenings to rehearse them in scenes from a film noir of its own invention.
The play continues Leavitt's long fascination with the stage sets, plots and props of Hollywood and Southern California, now with an unsettling AI twist. The text is bilingual, in French and English.
