An essential retrospective of one of British photography's most quietly radical voices, The Well gathers Nigel Shafran's fashion work from the mid-1980s to the present — a body of images that consistently resisted the glamour industry from within, turning the pages of i-D, The Face, and Vogue into space for contemplation, humour, and genuine human feeling. Edited and designed by the celebrated Dutch graphic designer Linda van Deursen, the book is shaped in part by conversations with key collaborators and editors including Phil Bicker, Charlotte Cotton, Katie Grand, and Kathy Acker. Shafran's work is held in the collections of MoMA Frankfurt, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
