My Photo Album is a visual autobiography constructed from Tracey Emin’s personal archive of photographs, spanning her childhood, adolescence, and early career through to her emergence as one of the central figures of the Young British Artists movement.
Structured to resemble an actual family photo album, the book combines vernacular snapshots, Polaroids, ID photographs, studio images, and informal encounters with friends, lovers, and cultural figures. Handwritten captions and annotations by Emin run throughout, giving the work a diaristic and often emotionally direct tone.
The sequence moves between private and public life: early family photographs in Margate, teenage self-images, documentation of artistic formation, and later images connected to her rise within the contemporary art world. Rather than presenting a linear narrative, the book builds a fragmented self-portrait through accumulation and repetition.
